HOSPITAL & VET CLINIC EMPLOYEES: Preparing for Your Pets Makes Sense. Get Ready Now. Precious Pet Pal LLC is assisting Jamie Baxter at Silverton Hospital in establishing a resource list to identify animal relief resources during a disaster. We are just starting this list and it will continue to grow. Also, if you are an employee of Silverton Hospital and need to be at work for long shifts, Precious Pet Pals and others on the Resource List will try to accomodate your pet day/night care needs. Please call and set up Animal Disaster Plans in advance if possible.
PREPARING YOUR PETS FOR EMERGENCY:http://www.ready.gov/america/getakit/pets.html Some of the things you can do to prepare for the unexpected, such as assembling an animal emergency supply kit and developing a pet care buddy system:
If you must evacuate, take your pets with you if possible. However, if you are going to a public shelter, it is important to understand that animals may not be allowed inside. Plan in advance for shelter alternatives that will work for both you and your pets (See Emergency Resource List).
Make a back-up emergency plan in case you can't care for your animals yourself. Develop a buddy system with neighbors, friends and relatives to make sure that someone is available to care for or evacuate your pets if you are unable to do so. Be prepared to improvise and use what you have on hand to make it on your own for at least three days. Progessionals are requesting longer preparations of 5-7 days to be safe.
DONATIONS NEEDED: PPP is collecting all donations to prepare for what may yet to come: crates of all sizes, blankets, towels, kennels, fencing materials, dog foods and medicines, talented individuals to assist in making house calls and providing for animals' needs to work with the businesses on the Emergency Resource List as we may be greatly understaffed during a disaster and monies is always helpful. If you are interested in volunteering to help with animals or donations please contact PPP.
FYI: Where can I go for food and water? The American Red Cross and other volunteer agencies will provide you with food, water and clothing. Listen to your radio or watch local media for the location of the nearest volunteer agency facility.
